Alumni Forum celebration video

I’m delighted to welcome so many of you here today to our inaugural alumni forum Alumni association, forums like today, are a great opportunity to re-engage people in what it meant to be here in the city and here at the university So I’ve come today to for one see what I can give back I like the idea of mentoring, I want to explore that further and try and give a little bit back to the current students. To know what the current focus of Bristol University is for example, declaring climate emergency it’s the first university to do so in the UK, perhaps the world and finding ways that we can contribute I’m looking forward to the panel discussion I’d quite like to know what’s going on with the university at the moment in particular the Temple Quarter enterprise campus As a Bristol resident, that’s important to me and what is the future of Bristol I’m very interested to hear what the alumni association is planning to do in the future in terms of supporting students I think that it’s not just a question of money I think it’s a question of how we can support them with time and advice and support whether it be through finding job opportunities, traineeship opportunities or just general advice and that’s what I’m quite interested in hearing about One of the great things about this event is just the way that we can pick up with alumni connect with the university work and hear a little bit from our senior leaders as well Whenever you have an opportunity you should try and give a little bit back and the alumni association enables people like us to get involved in university life and to support the university in many different ways So I’m here today to participate listen how I can continue being supportive of the university I find it thrilling as well to see the vision that the university has and how it’s the leader in so many different aspects Our alumni support us in so many different ways and allow us to compete with the very best universities in the world by helping us run the student experience and helping us run a research ecosystem Building equality that we could not achieve through conventional or traditional resources I loved my time in the university and the beautiful city that I’ve been living in and to be able to give something back as an alumni mentor to current students in Bristol would be fantastic The comments I heard from people who attended everything was that you know, were attending different workshops said oh this is a great format and they really liked it I see alumni as being part of a seamless community Right through from the students who are just joining us through to some of our students who come back year after year as alumni to support us My experience of Bristol is now ancient history so it was fantastic to listen to students of the university right now Medical students, Geology students, politics students to understand what Bristol is like for them And I think there’s a great deal that we can learn from that and certainly from an alumni perspective to reflect on the life of the student right now Getting to talk to alumni really made me feel part of the community because although I’m no longer a student in Bristol it’s still very much a part of my life and will be forever It’s a beautiful city and I’m proud to be a Bristol graduate I’m still smiling
