Before You Start a Blog: 5 Questions to Ask Yourself

Before You Start a Blog: 5 Questions to Ask Yourself

Have you been thinking about finally starting
a blog? Well, before you commit to it, there are a
few things you need to consider. I’m going to share five questions you need
to ask yourself before you dive head first into blogging. And if you don’t take the time to answer
these thoughtfully, you could be setting yourself up for a blogging disaster! So, if you want to ensure your blog gets started
off on the right path, just keep watching. When I started blogging, I’ll admit that
I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I didn’t know whether or not I could make
a full-time job out of it. I didn’t know if anyone would ever read
my blog, thus meaning I would have wasted my time and felt like an utter failure. But despite all of that unknown, I still went
for it and I learned a lot in the process. And I learned very quickly that some people
just aren’t cut out for blogging. I know that’s going to sound harsh, but
the reality is that many people believe blogging is this easy thing to do. Once they get involved in it though, they
begin to realize it’s not as simple as it looks on the outside because it requires a
lot of hard work and dedication if you want to succeed. There’s some statistic that I’ve seen
floating around the internet that says 95% to 97% of all blogs fail. I don’t know where that statistic came from,
but I’ve seen it quoted multiple times. And I’m going to be honest with you, I’m
really not surprised. In all my years of blogging, I’ve seen so
many blogs come and go. It’s actually really sad to see so many
people give up in frustration because they haven’t found success yet. And it’s always disappointing to see people
lose their passion for something they were once so dedicated to. So, before you start your very own blog, there
are a few things you should consider in order to determine if it’s the right move for
you. The first thing you should ask yourself is… Do you have a clear topic in mind? After you’ve decided you want to become
a blogger, the next thing you need to figure out is what you’re going to write about. It’s important to have a clear focus for
the posts you write as this is what’s going to help you attract the right audience to
your website. If you’re writing about everything under
the sun, you’re going to attract a bunch of random people who won’t necessarily form
any kind of attachment with your brand or you won’t attract anybody at all. Having a clear focus means you can bring all
the right people to your website and repel the ones you don’t want. This is especially important if you plan to
offer products and services. Because why would you want to attract all
of these people who are never going to buy anything from you? That’s an absolute waste of time and effort! You want to attract the people who will ultimately
become customers and clients. So, once you have that ideal topic in mind,
there’s something else you need to ask yourself… Are you truly passionate about that topic? If you aren’t passionate about your chosen
topic for your blog, it’s going to start going downhill really fast. You need to not only be passionate about the
topic at hand, but you also need to be passionate about writing for that topic. And I’m going to get real with you here… That’s actually where I went wrong with
my previous blog. I was passionate about fashion and I loved
to write. I thought combining those two things made
perfect sense. And it worked for a while, but I eventually
burnt out and blogging started feeling like a chore instead of being enjoyable. And the moment blogging starts to feel like
a chore is the moment something needs to change. When you start to dread writing your blog
posts, that’s a sign that something just isn’t right. So, whatever topic you choose needs to be
something you’re passionate about and that you can write about consistently for the foreseeable
future. Otherwise, your blogging career is going to
be short-lived. So, what can you write about for years and
years to come? The third question to ask yourself is… Do you have the time and energy to dedicate
to blogging? So, as I mentioned before, many people who
are on the outside looking in don’t realize just how difficult it can be to manage a blog. It takes a lot of time and a lot of hard work. Not only are you coming up with content ideas
and writing blog posts, you’re handling so much more as well. As a blogger, you are a writer, an editor,
a photographer if you’re taking pictures, a graphic designer, a social media manager,
a marketer, and many other things. That’s a lot of roles for one person to
take on, so it should come as no surprise that it takes a lot to get things done. You need to make sure that you not only have
the time to dedicate to blogging, but also the energy. There are a lot of tasks that will need your
attention. And you have to figure out… Are you cut out to handle it all? Can you fit it all into your life? Next, ask yourself why you want to start a
blog in the first place. If you’re just starting a blog because you
think it’s going to be the fast track to fame and fortune, you probably want to stop
watching this video right now. Blogging is not going to get you overnight
success. And the reality is, you could work your butt
off to grow your blog and still not find success. I know that sucks, but it’s the truth. And I’ve seen it happen to so many people. My reason for bringing this up is because
I don’t want you to pursue blogging for all the wrong reasons. You should be starting a blog because you’re
passionate about the topic you want to discuss. You should start a blog because you love to
write and because you have a message to share with the world. And finally… Do you have the motivation to keep going when
times are tough? As I said before, blogging is not going to
get you overnight success. You’re going to have ups and downs. There will be times when you want to quit. Are you going to be able to handle that? Instead of feeling discouraged and ultimately
giving up because you aren’t seeing results as quickly as you’d like, you have to keep
pushing forward. So, you need to ask yourself if you have the
motivation to keep going through those tough times. For those of you who have yet to start your
blog, I hope this empowers you to continue on the journey that is running a blog. If you already have a blog, I hope you reaffirmed
that you are on the right path so you can feel confident in the journey you have ahead
of you as you take your blog to the next level. Alright! Those are the five things I think everyone
should ask themselves before starting a blog. I hope you’re able to find answers to all
of those questions so you can feel confident as you move forward in blogging. Thank you so much for watching this video! And be sure to give it a thumbs up. And make sure you subscribe for more tips
