LANAYA: BONNIE STRICKLAND TOLD ME IT’S BEEN A WHILE SINCE SHE RECEIVED A NEWSPAPER FROM RANKIN COUNTY NEWS. HOWEVER IN THE RECENT PUBLICATION ON APRIL THIRD A SECTION OF THE PAPER CAUGHT HER EYE. LANAYA IN THE DEAR ANN SECTION – WHICH IS AN OPINION’S COLUMN – THREE PEOPLE WROTE ABOUT HOW QUOTE “BLACKS” HAVE SCARED PEOPLE AWAY FROM NEIGHBORHOODS IN RANKIN COUNTY. ONE RECOUNTS FOR SALE SIGNS GOING UP WHEN FAMILIES STARTED TO MOVE IN. ANOTHER MENTIONS HOW JACKSON STAARTED TO GO DOWN HILL WHEN QUOTE “THE BLACKS TOOK OVER.” STRICKLAND SAYS SHE UNDERSTANDS FREEDOM OF SPEECH BUT THERE SHOULD BE A LINE. I would think they would want everybody to feel like they can read the paper and appreciate the things that that are in there.
