How do you find newspaper articles and news items in Nexis Uni?


What approach do The Times
and The Independent take when writing about developments
concerning Brexit? How does the reporting
in these newspapers differ? Do you want to analyse
which subjects are gaining a lot of coverage in newspapers? Do you want to know what the papers
are saying about cyber flashing? Or are you searching for reviews
of the latest Haruki Murakami novel? In that case, consult Nexis Uni. Nexis Uni is a database of articles
from Dutch and foreign newspapers, weekly publications, news magazines,
press agencies and other news sources. This is how to access Nexis Uni… On the UvA Library website,
go to the menu… ClickSearch in the Collection… And then clickDatabases. Click theN,
and then clickNexis Uni. This brings you to the homescreen. Switch to the English interface,
if necessary. On this page,
you type in your search terms. If you want to search
in several specific sources, you can do this viaMenu,

. You can search for several sources here. There is also an Advanced Search option. You can access it via the Nexis Uni button
at the top left andAdvanced Search. If you click
Select a Specific Content Type
,News, and thenNewsagain, extra search fields will appear
for more targeted searching. To show you an example,
I’m looking for articles about the novelKilling Commendatore
by Haruki Murakami. Type the title,Killing Commendatore,
and clickAdd… And the author,Haruki Murakami,
and clickAddagain. And here, I type500. By doing this, I’m only searching
for articles of more than 500 words. Everything will now be in the search box.
So, clickSearch. To the left of the search results,
you will find several other ways for further refining
the number of search results. Nexis Uni has several other functions. You can save your search questions
and search results, adjust the settings to receive a message
if new results appear and share information with others. You need to create an account, but this is free of charge
because you are studying at the UvA. You create an account via Register. I already have an account,
so I’m now logging in. I go toHistoryto see
my previous searches. I click on one of the searches
and then on the bell. In this way, I can create an alert to automatically receive articles
dealing with the same subject. I want to share this search
