You can make a geodesic dome out of newspaper. Roll a newspaper from corner to corner. You can get a tighter roll if you start rolling around a bamboo skewer. After a few turns, remove the skewer and continue to roll. The tighter the roll, the stronger the strut will be. Cut off a few inches from each roll where the newspaper is the weakest. Measure and cut the struts to the right length. Start by placing 10 of the long struts in a circle on the floor. Add pairs of short and long struts as shown. I painted the shorts struts green so you can tell them apart. Tape the struts together. It may help to start with one piece of masking tape to temporarily hold the struts. You can finish taping after most of the struts are in place. In this step, add 10 short struts. Notice that in this step, five short struts meet at a vertex. The geodesic dome will be floppy until the last strut is in place.
