How to use the StudyDesk Forums

So now you’re wondering, how do I use the
StudyDesk forums? We will take you through all the essential
steps in using the forums which will help you throughout your university experience. Forum subscriptions and digest types are an
ambiguous combination of terms but are important aspects of the StudyDesk forums. Subscriptions refer to how you will be notified
of each discussion within the course forums. The button shown on-screen now is the indicator
of your subscription status to each forum within the course. Some forums require you as a student to be
subscribed where others will allow you to opt in or out. If you choose to opt out of a specific forum
you will no longer get email notifications when someone posts in the future. Now you know what subscriptions are, let’s
see how they link to digest types. Digest types are how you receive forum notifications
which will be in the form of email. By default, you will receive one email per
day with just the subject of each of the new forum posts. This is just one option when it comes to digest
types there are a few more which will help you choose how you want to be notified. No digest that seems pretty self-explanatory
right? It’s actually not what you might be assuming,
if you select this it means you will be notified every time there is a forum post which is
one email for every single post. That’s sure to fill up your inbox. Complete posts mean you will be emailed once
per day with the full content of each forum post. Let’s show you what this will look like
when you get a complete post email. As you can see this is a lengthy email so
be mindful when selecting how you wish to be notified of forum posts. Now we’ve covered digest types it’s time
we turn to posting within the forums. When you’re trying to start a conversation
or post in the forums we call this a new discussion topic. By creating a new discussion topic you’re
setting what the thread will be about. This is different to when you would like to
reply to an existing forum thread. Let’s take a look at that now. When you open an existing discussion topic
you will see all the responses to this thread. When you’re attempting to reply in a discussing
topic there a few ways in doing so. The first way is replying to the person who
created the topic which will mean your response goes to the bottom of the page. The second way is when you’re looking to
reply to a specific person’s comment on the discussion topic. This is done by clicking the reply icon on
that person’s comment which will make it appear under their post. Well that covers the topic of how to use the
StudyDesk forums. With this newly learned knowledge, we encourage
you to join in on forum conversations or start your own. It can really make a big impact on your university
experience.
