But in general, the first defense technique that is learned is Gedan Barai. Then “Gedan” means low. You see, Karate, down, below the belt is Gedan. Belt to the throat, almost: the Chudan part.   3. Bonjour sensei je voudrais savoir si on doit toujours avancer le coté de la hanche si on fais gedan barai sur le coté comme quand on commence le kata. Car c'est moins evident sachant que pour bloquer vers la gauche c'est le coté droit de la hanche qui doit avancer pour tourner a gauche. J'espere que ma question a un sens et que vous la comprenez XD. Je vous la pose car je voudrais que tous mes mouvements soient parfait. Merci .
