Karateka, comment apprendre un kata et ne jamais l’oublier [karate-blog.net]

Hello and welcome. I’m Bruno Bandelier, the karate teatcher of the net. And today I will teach you: “How to learn a Kata and never forget.” But in the meantime, you are free to download my book: “The ABCs of overheating.” That will allow you to have a means of technical memo, you warm up very easily at home, even if you do not have teacher. Now you have a way to warm up to avoid injury. So you download. You click, you leave me your email address and I send it to your inbox. Here ! So how learning a Kata and never forget? I see too often, in fact, students learning a Kata and then a few weeks or months, when reworking this Kata well, they know not, they must relearn. Even fairly ranking students. There are perhaps, looking at the video, which will recognize. But I often see, for example, belt brown students, that, every year, Heian relearn Gedan, Tekki Shodan … Every year they relearn. They just … well, they will move faster than others to learn, because they have already seen it once or several times. But often they do not know. They are still in the learning phase. Remember, I told you about the four stages of learning. Well, these people are in the third stage. That is to say they are in … in conscious competence. That is to say that they are competent, they know how to … it is not they know how … yes, they do not even know, not even … I say nonsense. They were in step “consciously competent”. Okay ? But they did not continue, Remember perseverance they continued not to get in step: “Unconsciously competent”. And as long as you are in this stage: “unconsciously competent” you can not say that you know your Kata. Because you know how, but if you are two months without doing so, and when you come back, you’ve forgotten, is that you did not know to. It is that information is not mounted in the long-term memory. What is needed is: force the brain to print Kata in your head, to really be printed, so that even if it did … two or three months that you have not worked Heian Shodan, This is not good. Well, if I ask you to Heian Shodan, you put yourself and you Heian Shodan without having to think. Okay ? You get to make your Kata because it is in the long-term memory. And that’s for you to get. So someone who is brown belt for example, when he learns Heian Godan or Tekki Shodan, Finally, whatever … Let it learns Tekki Shodan, what is needed is that once it knows,
what is needed is that once it knows, and although he repeats it again … to become: “Unconsciously competent”. Being in the fourth stage of learning, and so: Then, even if a few weeks without work, when the reworks, it, it will really work on it. He will not need to relearn it will work. Here ! So it was for you to understand why it was important to ask the question, learn the kata and try to learn for life. I’ll show you how to learn, and how after holding them for life. So how learning a Kata? I have a method. Well, there are some who, for example, will start the Kata to the beginning, go on and on … And when they do not know, they come and they remake the beginning, remake the beginning … I learned quite a Katas like that. The problem with this approach is that: one always knows great start, because every time it is repeated. So still we know really well from the start. Then it goes and it goes, and it’s difficult. The more our brain is stiff, it’s more difficult because: each time, it is still in learning, in learning. So we will try to do the opposite. This means that instead of the beginning of the Kata you go from the end. That is to say that you will cut your Kata into small pieces. Apart from three or four movements that are easy to learn. You will work a bit like Kihon. And you’ll start with the last piece. For example, if I take: Heian Shodan. Well, Heian Shodan: I’m at the end, at the very end. And I do: one, two, three, four. So that, a priori, it is not very complicated to learn. So I
put me and I take … So that’s my final module. And I learn and I work. I work and I work on it until really … I make it without rebound. Here, I mastered well. Once I mastered well, I’ll cut. I’ll take a front module. So let’s say there’s going to be the back straight. So here I am, back straight, is: Zuki, Zuki, Zuki. Then I turn and there, I do … Once part then I just do already: 50 times so it’s … it’s easy. Okay ? And I start. I redo my line and the end. My straight and the end. And as the end, I had already done 50 times before, suddenly, when I do: my line and end my line and the end, the straight, I do it again 50 times. The side, I do it 50 times. It’s there, I will have done 100 times. So after we take the other short side. When one is here: one, two, one, two. And taken up. Here ! So as and as you go forward in your Kata you’ll take the modules, each time, pieces of Kata which are forward in the Kata. In the Kata. And, each time, when you go to work, the more you will advance, and, the end of Kata will seem easy, because that’s the one you made the most. So when you get to the last module, in fact, to be the first module, which will be the beginning of the Kata. When you do: One. Two. When you learn the game there. Here ! And then you go out there, well, then the right line, you will have already done 20 to 30 times. … 30 times. That part, you will have already done 60 times. The back part, you will have already done 90 times, 100 times. And the end, you will have done 120 times. It’s the Kata, once you arrive at the beginning of Kata, you will learn the first part of Kata, and there, you can really go to the end of Kata no wrong, because: in As, you will be in phases where you will watch … Kata moments you, you will know better and better. So it will be increasingly easy. And suddenly, once you know your full Kata So that, that phase, Learning as I show you. Either you do, you learn your Kata yourself, Finally, when I say “yourself”, you will learn the club. But you can also work on your own to learn Kata several days. You can even, as on one sitting for two hours, you cut your Kata modules and you work on it, it … And once you know full, you’ll be in the learning phase and you will be consciously competent. Which means : you will know your Kata but you have to think about every time to do it. What is good, it is well! You know him ! That’s often what we see, what we see in the clubs is that: student, he leaves the club, we did a great course … everything. We arrived to take students to learn their kata. They come out of the course and they know their Kata. Except that they do not work behind, they’ll forget it. So how do after, not to forget? Above all, you must: repeat, repeat, repeat, re-repeat, re-repeat. Master Funakoshi in his book “Karate-do, my way, my life” he explains that every day, he would make his Kata. Every day, every day, every day … It was not from time to time, it was everyday, everyday, everyday, he would do his Kata. Okay ? So every day, you have to repeat your Kata. So I, I suggest, is that out of the way, you take notes. Try to re-mark your Kata. Because the act of writing, already, in your brain, it’ll do you good. And then it must be repeated every day. What you should know is that: information such as karate, which … they have information at neuromuscular level which are quite complex. It takes 66 days to repeat it remains in long-term memory. So, repeat your Kata for 66 days. You will say: “66 days Are you crazy?” But no, 66 days what’s it like? It’s been two months and one week. Come on! For nine weeks or so, you will make your daily Kata. That does not mean you have to do ten shots. You can do it once. If you can do a little more, that’s fine. But we must do it again. A kata Heian Shodan as such, it takes 45 seconds. A kata Heian Godan as it is about the same. Tekki Shodan, it should be even less. So this kind of Kata there, in the end, it will take you: one minute a day to make your Kata. We do not ask you, I do not ask you to do it thoroughly. I ask you not to put the potatoes, to put it all. Here the purpose is to remember gestures, embusen to retain and remember gestures. You do it for 66 days and at the end of 66 days what’s going to happen ? You will not need to think, even after 15 days without you make your Kata if I tell you: make Heian Shodan … making your Kata without thinking. And there, it is only from there that you will start working your Kata to really live your Kata. And power from there to really say, “I’m getting attacked” … to power, as you no longer need to think to know the gesture you going to do, there you will be able to feel. Work on feelings and really live your Kata as a fight. For Kata, it must be a struggle. This is a fight against yourself, against opponents that you will imagine. But it’s a fight, you must live it as a fight. But to live it as a fight, you should not need to think. When you do a fight against someone, you are not there: “I’ll put her fist after I make it …” No ! It’s … it’s okay, it’s coming. You see ? You have to feel it, and there, it’s the same. And for that, you have to learn your Katas, and learn, retain for life. You must… The Kata information must pass in the fourth stage of learning. Return to video on the four stages of learning. You must go in the “unconsciously competent”. You must be competent to do the Kata and unconsciously. Like to walk, biking, ride a bike. That is, even if it’s been a year that you are not mounted thereon, you go … it’s good, it’s gone. And there, the same. OK ? So, remember that much. Learn your Kata asap. All movements, all that … Learn as soon as possible after and redo it, remade it, repeat it, repeat it for 66 days. So, occasionally, quite regularly, show what you do to your teacher or a Senpai. For if sometimes there are things … because when we are in the learning phase, sometimes, there are movements that do not do well. So if there are things you do not do well, but they can correct you. He will tell you “no, there is not like that, would have you turn like that. ” And suddenly, you get better and you re-continue, you continue, you continue your Kata. You learn, you learn. So, every week, for example, when you get to the club, do your Kata front of everyone. I did like this example: I arrive before the warm-up before the course, when everyone is in general, and then waits … Well, me, what was I doing? I put myself in a corner of the room, and I was doing my Kata. And I always had a Senpai who came to me: “But there it is, it would like you to do that …” And I liked more. It helps to have relationships with others in the club. And then to have people … The Senpai, in general, do not tell you: “No, I do not want to show in front of everyone, I do not dare.” No, do not be afraid. We all started, so it was a Kata you are just learning, it is normal to make mistakes above, You’re learning it. Me there, right now, I’m working my Katas to spend my fourth dan. For sure, as … As long as I’m not a phase, really, I know it by heart and all … I make mistakes, that’s normal. Okay ? So it’s the same: learn your Katas and repeat them, repeat them, repeat them. Repeat them for it to become something natural for you. Here ! Listen! Thank you ! I hope you like this video. So as always, I need to get back. So click “like” if you like this video.
