Play to Your Strengths when Choosing Blog vs. Podcast

considering whether you should go with a blog or podcast? Or maybe social media – Maybe LinkedIn – Maybe Facebook – Maybe YouTube – and you can’t make a decision? Well today we’re going to talk about how you make that decision. So if that’s you stay tuned! Welcome to the action chat. I’m Craig Severinsen founder owner of Bright Works PR and Marketing and that this is the show where we come together every morning 10 a.m. central to talk about building massively successful businesses. And the business we’re focused on is yours! So make sure that you hit that subscribe button right down there and that you like and comment so that we know what’s working and what you want to hear about. Okay, the big question: should I start a blog? Should I start a podcast? What should I do? Well, here’s the thing – we talked about those marketing tactics because they work, but most of them are long term games. Right? So, if you’re needing clients right this second these type of tactics are not the silver bullet that are going to get you what you want tomorrow. Right? The only type of marketing that makes that happen is this one to one kind of in the trenches marketing – like direct calls, direct messaging. That type of thing; to activate – networking even – but that being said a blog or a podcast or even a social media platform like YouTube or Facebook can be a great way for you to build your brand. And also to build long-term clients – as in you’re building a platform. This is platform marketing – right – and the idea behind platform marketing is it’s a way for you to get your brand out. It’s a way for you to get your message out. It’s a way for you to tell your story, and the idea behind it it is that you become a thought leader you become a trusted brand by providing a lot of value to people. And it works! It really does work, but it takes a long time to grow these things. So, if that’s you, you’re in that situation were you’re like ‘yeah I want to start growing this platform, I want to start growing my brand and my thought leadership,’ then my only advice for you is to play to your strengths. If you are really good at writing then write – start a blog, you know? If you’re really good at video – do video. You know? And if you have a social media platform where people hang out go there. Really, the truth is is that you’ve got to play to your strengths, and the second thing that I would say is it’s great to do all this stuff, right? It’s great to be on Facebook, and LinkedIn, and Twitter, and Instagram, and Snapchat, and on YouTube, or have a blog, have a podcast – it’d be great to do all those things but you know how difficult it would be for you to do that on your own? It would be next to impossible. So, my advice for you is to focus. Decide what really your strength is. Is it video? Is it written? Is it – do you have a radio voice, right? I almost said radio face – I didn’t want to be rude, but I mean seriously are you good in front of the camera or is it better just to have your voice, which is perfectly fine. There’s nothing wrong with that. And what you do is – once you really decide on your strength – choose one or two tactics that you can really focus your attention on. Get really deep, get really masterful at them and that’s how you’re going to start making traction. Once you have enough clients where you can afford help maybe then we start to expand but until then we’re going to focus on just those one or two marketing channels and get really really deep with them. So that’s your answer. I promised in the description that answer was yes and the answer is yes! Should I do a blog? Should do a podcast? Yes! What is your strength? Choose one own it, master it, and you’re going to be successful. Okay guys. Until next time go take some fast, focused, imperfect #Action. I’ve got your back. I believe in you. Until tomorrow, this is the #Action Chat

  1. I have a blog but I am going to change it to a collection of e-books, which can be collected during the e-mail list building. Blog is a bit outdated, what is your opinion?
