The Real Reason Your Blog Doesn’t Rank (How to Write a Blog Post that Ranks in 2019) | SEO Tutorial

– You’re writing all these blog posts, but for some reason you’re
not getting any rankings, and search traffic from Google. And you know what? Today, I’m gonna share why
that is and how to fix that. Hey everyone, I’m Neil Patel. And today I’m gonna explain
the number one reason your blog doesn’t rank. (gentle music) Before we get started, make sure you subscribe to
this video and this channel. So that way when I have
more videos like this you’ll get notified. Now, quick question for you. How many blog posts
are you writing a week? Is it one? Is it zero? Is it 10? List the number below, I’m curious. The real reason I’m asking that question is because blogging is no
longer a quantity game. When I started blogging there was less than 30
or 40 million blogs. It was a smaller number. Now there’s over a billion blogs. Just think about that. A billion blogs on the web. That’s roughly one blog
for every seven people. Do you think we really need
all those blogs out there? No, of course not. That’s why blogging has
shifted from a quality game versus a quantity game. When I started you can just
crank out tons of quantity, you’ll do well. And now if you do that, you won’t do well. So I’m gonna break down the
formula you need to follow, step by step. If you wanna write content that ranks. Step one, head over to Ubersuggest. Step two, once you’re at Ubersuggest, type in a competing URL. So take any one of your competitors that you know is doing really well, type in their URL into Ubersuggest. Step three, you’ll see a overview page. This will show you their
traffic, all their search terms, within the region you’re targeting. So on Ubersuggest we did a
search within the United States. You’ll see that URL’s traffic
just for the United States. You can always switch the region. But the reason this tool is built this way is because your customers
are probably coming from a specific region versus
from everywhere in the world. On that page I want you to
scroll down, click on Top Pages. When you click on Top Pages it’ll show you all of the
most popular pieces of content that your competition’s written about, their traffic to each post, and when you click View All
under their estimated traffic, it’ll show you all the keywords that are driving those visitors. Now, the next step I want you to follow. You’re looking for the keywords that drive in a lot of
traffic, the most volume. Have a low search difficulty
or SEO difficulty number. Ideally under 50. And you’re looking for keywords that have a high cost per click. So, in general if it’s over a dollar or two, three dollars, the better. When you find these keywords,
those are money keywords. I want you to go and
search for ’em on Google. Which is the next step. So go to Google, do a search
for one of those keywords. When you do a search, read all
the articles in the top ten. When you read all the
articles in the top ten it’ll give you a good understanding of what Google is looking for for the articles that rank for that term. Especially if you wanna rank for it. The next step is write
a much better article. I’m not talking about
something that’s double, triple the length. I’m not even talking
about 10 times the length. Yes, you want something that’s
longer and more in depth. But it’s not all about length. It’s more about thoroughness. Did you cover every aspect
of that article, that topic? For example, if it’s making a pizza, do you talk about the crust? How the water effects
the crust and the taste. Is it better to use
bottled water or tap water? How should you cook your pizza? Do you cook the dough first
and then put on the sauce? Do you cook through
your dough a little bit, then take it out of the
oven, put on the sauce, then the toppings? Like, what’s the process? By breaking it down step by step to even what kind of oven you should use. Where to put the tray in the oven. In the middle, at the top, at the bottom. How long you should cook
it for and the temperature. Should you use convection oven? Non-convection oven. All these uses are so specific that when someone reads your content the article is amazing. They’re like, oh my god Neil,
I got so much value out of it. And that’s the key to creating
an amazing piece of content. That’s how you write
content that gets traffic. It’s not about producing quantity. It’s about producing quality. And the last step I have for you is when you’re producing these content email all the other sites
that you source, right? The sites you’re linking to. And tell ’em, hey John, I
linked out to your site, love what you are doing. Linked out to you my latest pizza article. Check it out here. And there’s a good chance that they’ll share that
article on the social web. Once you follow this research process you’ll do much better. And this is why, if you follow this, you will start only
writing articles that rank. You’ll stop writing articles
that get no traction. Which is huge waste of time. And of course, if you want help
with your content marketing, you can always check out my

  12. This is just like ' skyscraper technique' by Brian Dean. But considering this video, you yourself applied the skyscraper technique. You shared some content about the technique and you even mentioned about the backlink process! Provided a $hit ton of Value. As always amazing Niel! Practice what you preach!

  13. I write @one per week. Thank you for Ubersuggest. I am trying to use it to help improve my site. Question – how do I improve my domain score? I think this would make a great video.

  14. I am very new to blogging on a whole, I haven’t even started yet but I want to. However, I live in the Caribbean, the Turks and Caicos Islands to be exact. Will I be able to earn any income still? Because normally every blogger I watch mostly lives in the US. And they’re the ones that put out contents on how to navigate blogging.

    I've a question.
If i write about a particular topic after reading top 10 blog, polish and edit their content wisely(keeping plagiarism in mind).
Will google rank it on top??
Because top 10 bog's quality content is blended in it.

  17. I attempt to do at least one a week. With that being said, I post exerpts on my fanpage, LinkedIn etc. to link to the full blog post. I'd like to automate this though haven't found a good plugin to do so. Can you recommend one? Also there's a new plugin called RankFlux, was wondering your take on it?

  18. Is it worth writing a super thorough blog post if your blog is brand new and hasn't been indexed yet? The blog post might not rank quick enough before someone else writes a super through post and outranks you anyway?

  19. Hey Neil,
You always talk about, link to other people,

How to find out whom to link to?
Are there some guidelines regarding this?
Can you please share your thoughts on this?

    What I know so far:
    1. Link to others if that's helpful for your audience.
    2. Link to others if that proves your point.
    What else according to you?

  20. Im from Philippines, I started Blogging and Im using Blogspot, i dont know SEO , Im always follow your videos, Hunger to learn 🙂 , THanks to you Sir 🙂

  21. What a great video. It's so packed with helpful information. I have never heard of UberSuggest before. This will be my new go-to tool before I write my next blog.

  22. Good energy and positivity, I need much more knowledge of PC and better sleep and energy to be able to listen, follow and take in, know only very, very basic computer use. I want to start a blog since years, but thought I should get better first. But that journeý is one of the themes I want to blog about, so that is just burn-out circle thinking…Listening to you gives me a new idea: To make an instructional for real beginners and for burn-outs who can't take in but are and get really tired very soon. I shall use a low pitch, which I think would increase your view numbers even more. Thanks!
