Hi, I’m Andy Webb. I’m a money blogger and
a personal finance journalist. I write daily about the ways to help my readers
get the best value for their money and save some cash. So, this trick is using a
website – or an app – called Zeek, where you can buy and sell discounted gift cards.
Now, you probably wouldn’t be buying a gift card for yourself under normal
circumstances. When you buy a gift card from Zeek, I guess you can think about it
a little bit like someone saying to you, “Hey, here’s £30 in cash but I’m
only gonna charge you £25 – a fantastic and easy saving. It’s very
simple. You log in and you’ll be given a list of different brands, big brands.
iTunes, John Lewis, Debenhams, all the cinemas, all the supermarkets. And they’re all gonna have a bit of a discount, and this can range from three or four
percent all the way up to twenty percent, maybe even higher. You might be thinking,
“Hang on what’s the catch? Why are you doing this?” Well, there is none. This is
simply people who have got gift cards they don’t want, and the way they sell
them is to offer a little bit of a discount. It’s very easy to buy with a
gift card. When you’ve found the item you want to buy, whatever shop it is, you put
it in a basket and you go to checkout. Now, normally you’d enter a credit card
or debit card details, but instead just find where it wants you to enter that
gift card information. Normally a little code put it in, press pay, and it’s
exactly the same as if you had paid with a credit or debit card, and you’ve made a
purchase, and you save some money. It’s a no-brainer, really. I’m spending that
money anyway, so I may as well get the saving. Everybody wins. They’re getting
cash for something they’re not using, and you’re gonna be getting an extra
discount at your favourite shops.
