Vanilla Forums Advanced Search

Vanilla Forums Advanced Search

One of the more popular features in Vanilla is advanced search which is available for corporate
enterprise, and VIP clients now if it’s not enabled in your backend
and you have one of these plans you just need to contact support
and they’ll turn it on for you and you’ll know it’s turned on when you see it here as shown highlighted in yellow. Now to
give you a full benefit of showing you what the advanced search is all about, I’m going to use a support community from one of our customers called Kinvey, this way we can show you the full functionality of advanced search. So here we are on the Kinvey community forum and as you can see here, they have a search box at the top. Now how does advanced search work? Well as I start to type, a word, like “offline”, you will see that it autocompletes and there is some information that shows up. So, right away I can take a choice to select any of
these items that are showing in my search results. Or I can simply click
“Go”. Now on the result pages, as you can see , all different result are there and it’s highlighted. And what you will also see, is there is a little drop down arrow and by clicking this, it opens up
the advanced search. And as you can see here the
advanced search allows you to search: by title by author, by category, by subcategory or anything that is archived. And if tags are enabled, you can also search by tags that are used by the community. You can also search just
discussions or questions or comments or answers and you also have the option to search by different time period. And that’s the way
advanced search works. Now, let’s do an example. So we have the
search, here, we were doing for the term “offline” and let’s say we only wanted to look at
answers so we un-select all these. And let’s do within a month. Note you also have to add a time period, so date within one month of today. Let’s just add that in there. Now we click search and the results
will show up but we need to just close our search bar
here by clicking the little triangle. And as you can see here, here are the results that happened in the last 4 weeks, as we selected from here. So
there you have it that’s how advanced search works. If you
have any questions and you are a hosted customer please consider
