Vanilla Forums Homepage Title, Favicon, and Banner Settings

Vanilla Forums Homepage Title, Favicon, and Banner Settings

Once you are up and running with Vanilla Forums one of the first things you’re going to want to do is to add a title and description about
your site as well as add some character. For
example adding your logo. We will use the Bootstrap theme for this demo. In order to add a description and a homepage title, you can access settings, from the “Appearance” menu, and sub menu “Banner” the first element to fill in is homepage
title: now the homepage title, is the name of your website. It’s also
what will appear in search engines so make sure you choose a title that
make sense. In the rest of the community the title will be automatically
generated by the titles of discussions and it also include the title of your
company. For now just give it a good title that tells the world who you are. In this example, we are using the fake company, WQXYZ. The next step is the site description. The site description actually can also be the description will also be found in Google, Bing or whatever search engine is your favorite. You should write about 100 to 250 characters and make it really concise about what
the site is about. Finally you have a banner title which will show in the Banner slot, if no image is present. So on the front end you can see it here. This is the banner title. This is the
site title and here is the site description So now we have those three elements covered. On the right side we have some images you could add. First up is the banner logo There is no standard size but 250 by 50 px should look nice and be okay. You can also add a mobile banner logo if you decide that you want to do so we can use the same size. We can also add a Favicon. Finally you can add a share image. A shared image is the image that will show on Facebook or Google+ or any other social network that allows
an image to be included. When something is shared from your site a discussion or comment and there’s no
image this image will be the default image that’s
used. Let’s choose one quickly. Last, let’s click save. The images will be sent to our
server and a show up here shortly. You can scroll down and see them. And on the homepage, you now see the changes. If you notice
something that happens on the Bootstrp theme. We actually
hide the search bar as you can see right over here. This happens as the banner overlaps the search div, no matter the size, so you have to have to make some small adjustments to the theme HTML and the CSS. Let’s do that quickly and show you how to do that. Go back to up to the appearance menu again and go to customize theme in customize theme you to locate where the logo div is. This is where you need to make some changes. I’ve made some modifications which I
will share in the description of the video. But
basically what I’ve done here’s is closed the logo div, and reoepend it What that does is close the banner div and push things
down. Because of this we need to add some custom CSS which I’ve done here, and I’ll click apply. Let’s go to the front-end and click refresh As you can see the nav-menu is below the banner, and the mebox has moved down and the search bar now reappears. So there you have it, and how you can add some quick customization to your Vanilla Forums.
Obviously you can change colors and do other things as well but I just want to give you a quick view on to make some changes. I will include the link to the code that I used you to
make these changes happen. We hope that you found this video
