Vanilla Forums Reputation System: Ranks

Vanilla Forums Reputation System: Ranks

In an earlier video we talked about badges
and reactions and today we will be talking about ranks.
Ranks is part the reputation system in Vanilla Forums and can be accessed from the reputation
menu in the dashboard of your community by selecting ranks. One thing to note,
obviously, is that you are going to need to go to adds-on to turn Ranks on, before
shows up in your reputation menu. So let’s take a
look at ranks and understand a little bit more about what it is and what does it do. As you see here, we
have a table where we have different levels and different names associated to those levels and a label that will be added that’ll
be a kind of tag that will be added to the username. We will show you how that looks on the frontend later. And then we have criteria. Criteria is basically how ranks will be given. By default we use points, that can be earned from badges, for example adding a
photograph or reactions where people vote up your content. And when you hit that certain level you will automatically go into that rank. It’s also really
simple to modify. You just click edit to modify any existing
rank or you can at add any rank. We will just go through some of the settings here. So you can give a Rank name , and Label and put in some HTML, if you wanted to to insert a certain image. You can add the level that you want to be represented overall. You can set a CSS class, so that you can do things with your theme. you can enter a body message for users
when they get this rank and you can enter message that is seen on the page when they get the rank. The other things you can set up is the criteria. By points, by time spent in a community, by the number of posts they
need… whatever to reach that specific rank and their you can also set by what
permissions someone needs to get that rank. As well you can also decide if a rank
can be applied manually or if it’s automatic as people achieve the criteria you have set. Then, of course, comes the most important thing which are the abilities so these are the abilities that you can
make automated for example ability to post links you can make that automatic on different levels you can have people automatically
verified. You can allow them to add YouTube videos or just default HTML. You really have
this full granularity where, for example, you decide new users have limited capabilities and as people get more more trust in
your community they have more abilities to do
things, such as make a poll or add a signature. And that’s pretty much how ranks work in
terms of setting them up once again you can modify any of the
existing ranks there already in Vanilla and you can also add your own
by just clicking “add rank”. and filling in the fields. Now let’s look at how does that looks on the front-end Go into any discussion on your
community and what will happen the admin has little thing here , or label “admin” and a member has the one star. Remember you can modify with CSS, if you’re comfortable with that and make it look pretty with icons or more. Whatever you imagination can think of. That’s pretty much ranks in a
nutshell. If you’re a hosted Vanilla customer needs support you may contact
