Voice of the Bondsman – rare abolitionist newspaper found and restored at Western University

The Archives and Special Collections at Western Libraries has what we believe are the last remaining copies of the newspaper, The Voice of the Bondsman, that was printed by John Linton in 1856. When they came in they were dark and brittle, creased and and torn. They are now much more stable, brighter in color and de-acidified so that the paper will last a long, long time. They look similar to maybe when they came off the press when they were first produced, although they do still show a little bit of their signs of age, as we would expect them to.
