What are Community Engagement Forums?

The purpose of community engagement forums is to provide a place where local needs, issues and projects can be discussed by local residents, community groups, town and parish councils and public sector organisations, in order to help shape future activity. The object of the forum’s are to develop shared understanding of local priorities and needs, improve the quality of life of people in the local area by influencing local decision-making and service delivery. There are 14 community engagement forums across South Gloucestershire each of which meets three times the year, anyone can come and everyone will be given an equal status at the meetings. If you’re local we want you to come and feel free to bring a friend or a neighbour. So the community engagement forum is an open public forum, anyone is welcome to come along, you can meet your local police officers, your local beat managers and PCSOs, so from a policing point of view we’d love to see you, we take questions and we provide updates on the sorts of things we’ve been doing. Some of the issues that come to the CEFs that the police deal with include lower-level things such as issues around parking and environmental quality of life issues, although some of those are dealt with by our partners in the local authority, but also more impactive issues such as anti-social behavior and low-level criminality and the things that ruin people’s quality of life. So what we do then is, we take the issues away, we look into them and sometimes that results in criminal investigations, antisocial behavior enforcement or other action which we then feed back the next community engagement forum to update people on what we’ve done to address their problems. The Fire Service attend community engagement forum meetings regularly to provide you with information on emergency incidents that we’ve attended in your area and also community safety messages in regards to initiatives that we’re delivering for fire safety purposes I like to encourage new residents to come along to the meetings, one of the benefits of people attending these forums is that they’re a way of bringing communities together. Everyone is welcome and please access the South Gloucestershire webpage for further details.
