Why Every Freelancer Should Start a Blog

Why Every Freelancer Should Start a Blog

Hello. I am Keesha Metcalfe. And today, I
have prepared a short video for you and it’s called Why every freelancer should start a
blog. Now, this is my personal conviction that every single freelancer should start
a blog Now, the first reason why I believe that every single freelancer should start
a blog is that a blog allows you to create a professional brand image. Now, as a freelancer,
you are the brand and so it is important that you build your own personal brand image. However,
as a freelancer, it is quite difficult to build your brand image without a blog. So
a blog would give you a platform from which you can establish your own personal brand
and to build your own brand image. Now a blog is going to act as your online resume and
also as a portfolio for your services so that you can professionally display just what it
is that you have to offer to clients and to potential customers. And a blog indicates
to persons that you are a professional and that you are serious about what you have to
offer. So that is the first compelling reason why you need to start a blog – because you
want to create a professional brand image for yourself as a freelancer. Next, another
very important reason why you want to start a blog as a freelancer is to get more leads.
Now, as freelancers, we all know that one of our most pressing problems is getting a
steady stream of leads in order for us to maintain a steady income. And a blog is going
to help us to get that steady stream of clients, that steady stream of prospects that will
enable us to earn a sustainable and a continued income. Because what the blog is going to
do, it is going to allow you to get found by persons who are searching for your services,
searching for what you have to offer. The blog is there and it’s going to act as a
valuable marketing tool for you. So, it allows you to open up your markets exponentially,
so that you’re able to reach persons, you’re able to reach markets that you would be unable
to reach for yourself as an individual, just marketing your services, the normal traditional
way. With a blog, you can reach markets all over the world. So, you can be in the United
States and you can reach persons in the UK, you can reach persons in China, you can reach
persons all over the world. So a blog allows you to do that, it allows you to increase
your market exponentially. So you might be a single person, a single freelancer working
on your own, but a blog allows you to reach a very, very wide range of clients and that
allows you to build more stability for yourself as a freelancer because you have a larger
client base. Then, it allows you to find clients passively. So, even while you are sleeping,
your blog is there working on your behalf. And your blog is, you know, can act as a recruiting
tool for you. While you are sleeping, there are persons who are searching the internet
and having a blog would enable them to find you even while you are not physically present.
Then a blog is going to allow you build your authority, and of course to build brand awareness.
Now, some of the most successful freelancers in the world, have a blog. And they use this
blog as a powerful marketing tool to get the word out there; to make persons aware that,
here I am, I am a professional, these are the services that I have to offer. And so,
that allows you to create brand awareness. Now, when you write on a particular topic
or a particular subject consistently, what it does is that it establishes you as an authority,
as a leader in that certain area, in that certain field. And people who have never met
you, who never would have been able to meet you otherwise, they can learn about you through
your blog. So just by conducting a simple online search, a Google search, and we all
love to use Google, and just by conducting a Google search, you can find a freelancer
who is offering a service and you can get in touch with that freelancer, and as a freelancer
you have the advantage of persons being able to find you without you doing a lot of leg
work for yourself. Okay, then a blog is going to allow you to increase your influence. Now
as a freelancer this is very, very important to you. Because persons who have influence
are very instrumental in the decision making of others. So as a blogger, as a freelancer
who becomes a blogger, you are able to influence people. Your blog is going to give you a voice
for you to air your opinions, for you to air your thoughts, and it will allow you to influence
others like you would not have the opportunity to influence if you did not have a blog. And
so, it is easier to market to persons over whom you have influence. And the blog will
help you to do that. Then, finally, a blog will help you to establish your credibility.
So as a freelancer, we know that, especially if you work from home, persons might feel
that okay well, he or she works from home, I don’t know if they have the expertise,
I don’t know if they have the talent or the skills that I need to get the job done.
With a blog, it enables you to establish that credibility. It enables you to showcase all
your talents. You can create portfolios, samples of your work and they are there for persons
to see, for persons to explore. Your blog articles are there and they’re speaking
to that particular topic, that particular subject that says to people, I am an expert
in this area, I am an expert in this field, and I am credible. You can rely on me, you
can trust me, you can respect me, and you can hire me because I am a credible person.
I am real. Also, a blog also says to persons that look, I am a freelancer and I am willing
to open up myself to public scrutiny. I have nothing to hide. I am offering a service that
is legitimate, a service that is very valuable and a service that you can purchase. Alright,
so the blog is going to allow you to do that. And as a freelancer, it is very important.
Credibility is very important. So, how can you get started with a blog? How can you start
a blog? Now one of the easiest ways to start a blog is to get started with a course. And
fortunately, for you guys, I am currently in the process of finish up, of finishing
