Women in Agriculture Forum

Jaala Pulford: I think it’s really important that women
in agriculture have an opportunity to influence the agenda. Today our focus is particularly
on celebrating women in agriculture in Victoria. Of course our agricultural industries are such
an important part of the Victorian economy. Diverse views are something I value. I think
it’s something incredibly important. And, for any part of the economy, for any part
of society, to be fully reaching its potential, it needs to be getting the best out of all
of its participants, and so for us to do that we need to harness the ideas and energy of
our women. Today we’ll focus on issues and actions around supporting women as leaders in the
agriculture sector. And, we can also celebrate these many achievements. Katie Findlay is with us today,
the 2015 winner of the Victorian Rural Women’s Award. Katie’s work has given farmers better
control of markets for their produce. Katie Findlay: It’s such a great opportunity to meet all these influential women. My aim for today is to meet everybody in the room (interrupted: You’re going to give it a go too) because I figure, you know there’s – with this many women from lots of different parts of agriculture in Victoria, everybody I need to know is here. Alana Johnson: I see this as a next step,
where 30 years ago women were asking to be heard, to have their contribution to agriculture recognised. And, now we’re meeting 30 years later and saying we want an equal
platform. Women need to be there on our decision making bodies, representing
agriculture for the benefit of agriculture. Katie: Well, it’s an unprecedented
opportunity for us to have a direct line of communication to the Minister. We’ve been
invited to bring our issues here, you know. Before the event we were invited to nominate
some of our key issues. And, you know, what a great opportunity to actually spend some
time with the Minister and be able to influence policy. Authorised by the Victorian Government,
